There are several types of cars circulating in the Indonesian automotive market, such as city car, MPV, SUV, hatchback, and sedan. Each car has a fan, so does the hatchback and the city car. People often consider that hatchback and city car are similar, but they are different. Then, what are the differences between hatchback cars and city cars? Now take a look deeper at this article.

The Difference between Hatchback Cars and City Cars

There are at least three differences between hatchback cars and city cars. The first difference is the car dimension. If it is seen from the sizes or the car dimension, hatchback types tend to be longer than city car types. That makes the hatchback has more roomy cabin space. The second difference can be seen from the interior sides and the car features which are pinned by car producers. The technology features of the hatchback are more complete and more than city car. Its interior is more luxurious, from the material sides or the design. Thus, the price of hatchback cars is more expensive than city car types.

The third difference is in the engine capacity. The size of a city car tends to be smaller than a hatchback. This makes the engine capacity used is smaller. To understand more about these two car types, it is better to know about their strengths and weaknesses.

The Strengths and Weaknesses of Hatchback

Hatchback cars are identical to youngster cars since their sizes are quite small. The term ‘hatchback’ is often used for a passenger car which is sedan-based. However, the flashy difference is on its baggage part. It is different from hatchback which uses space on the back seats (passenger seats) as the baggage part. This makes hatchback cars unable to accommodate four to five passengers.

There are plus points which are possessed by hatchback so that this car type becomes the favorite of youngsters. Here are some of them.

1. It has a small body but it is spacy

If compared to other car types such as SUV and MPV, the body of a hatchback is smaller. However, do not worry when driving this car. Although it is small, the cabin room feels wide and the headroom is high enough. Hatchback also has a sturdy and firm body due to a high ground clearance if compared to sedan.

2. It has various designs

Hatchback is addressed to all circles. It can be for youngsters and women who need a small car. That is why the design is varied; there is a sporty one like Yaris, a calm-designed like Suzuki Swift, or a unique one like Mini Cooper.

3. It has an easy handling

The types of hatchback cars are relatively easy to control because the size and the capacity of the cars are not so big. Thus, the handling system will be easier to control. Besides, some types of hatchbacks have been equipped with Vehicle Stability Control technology (VSC) which is useful to control the car maneuver and avoid the risk of accidents.

However, behind the advantages, hatchback type cars also have disadvantages. One of them is because of its shorter size, some types of hatchbacks have low ground clearance so they are less flexible in all terrains, for example when passing through puddles or speed bumps.

The next drawback lies on the small passenger capacity, making it less suitable to be used as a family car. When viewed in terms of power, hatchback cars have relatively less power than other types of cars.
